Release Date: 02/24/2006 · Format: CD · Catalog-No:’Let’s Away’: New light, drifting and beautifully twisted album from Danish/Swedish Lampshade.
’Let’s Away’ – The second album from Lampshade – came to being under rather unique circumstances. Life on the road, closing the year 2005 with concerts in 9 countries, and the fact that the band members live in Sweden and Denmark, meant that ’Let’s Away’ by far was created on the road, while new songs were arranged in the tour bus and rehearsed on venues in e.g. Berlin, Amsterdam and Oslo.
The largest part of the songs on the album are written by the charismatic lead singer rebekkamaria, and the sound of the album was born in the crossing of the band being partial to grandiose Nordic sound, singer/songwriter music and Swedish pop music – an inspiration the two new guitarists carry with them from their native country. In this way the music stretch from light and obliging melodies to rhythmically founded pop songs and grandiose beautifully noisy explosions of sound. The title of the album is inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and reflects the narrative in the lyrical universe that involves English, Danish and Swedish.
One of the guest-acts on the album is the American singer/songwriter Damien Jurado, who has released a great number of albums on SUB POP and Secretly Canadian. The album is recorded at Lydkraft Studiet in Denmark and mastered by John Golden (Sonic Youth etc.) in California. Like their first album ’Because Trees Can Fly’ ’Let’s Away’ will be released in all of Europe by the reputable Glitterhouse Records. After the release a European tour will bring the band to about 11 countries.
Biography Lampshade has existed since 2000 and has released a bunch of singles and EP’s, taken part in the concept release 3P (three EP’s released as an album in a digi-pack) and about 15 compilations internationally. The breakthrough single ’Adorable Void?’ was released in 2001 and made way for a long line of concerts and festivals in Denmark, Sweden, Germany and The Netherlands and for airplay in Danish national TV and radio. In 2003 Lampshade released the debut album ’Because Trees Can Fly’ in Denmark and the year after the band signed with Glitterhouse Records after a show that amazed the label’s President and A&R at a concert in Germany, and the album was released in the rest of Europe with great success. Furthermore the album was released in a limited vinyl edition by the Dutch label Either/Or.
In large parts of Europe - both in and outside the 9 countries the band has been touring in – Lampshade has achieved fine airplay and good press. E.g. ’Because Trees Can Fly’ was Album of the Week in Belfast Telegraph and in the German music magazine Visions, while the single from the album has been played in BBC 6, UK and a lot in France.
